This is the struggle that all professionals face but for this conversation it was focused on Special Operations to illustrate the common factors we all face as humans trying to find the balance.
The balance is a mystical thing that very few of us have and even fewer actually know we should be trying to find it.
When your passion becomes your purpose and ultimately becomes your primary source for providing for your family, it often takes on a different dimension and that’s where both worlds collide.
Your work schedule isn’t allowing time for your family because it takes a lot of training time to mitigate the risk or further develop your skillset.
You’re almost living opposing lives from your family for weeks, months or even years because that’s what the job requires, i.e. Military, Police, Fire, Doctors and the list goes on.
You must develop a dial and not a switch, using your time wisely and being able to detach the two worlds will allow you the opportunity to fully focus on one thing at a time.
This requires active participation on dialing up your focus and intensity for whatever should be the primary focus, when it’s family, make them your total priority because you don’t have the free time to waste.
When it’s time to focus at work, be an absolute professional without distractions, you’ll start feeling fulfilled on both fronts and not sacrificing one for the other.
At the end of the day, we are all struggling with the same thing and no matter how successful you might be, we can’t buy more time.
Invest in developing dials, not switches, learn from my mistakes.
