Photoshop Scratch Disk Full Error Means and Solutions | 2020
Do you have problem like this? It means your PC doesn't have enough space to store Photoshop temporary files. The storage called Scratch Disk.
In other words, a scratch disk is a disk drive or SSD used for temporary storage while Photoshop is running.
By default, Photoshop uses the hard drive on which the operating system is installed as the primary scratch disk.
Photoshop always reserves 6 GB of space on boot drives and 1 GB on non-boot drives to avoid causing problems for the operating system by running a drive completely out of space.
Look at that, my C drives free space only 4 GB and something. Because of this storage scarcity, Photoshop showing this message.
To solve this, you can tweak scratch disk settings in the Preferences to Scratch Disks section.
Choose from the menu bar.
For Windows: Edit, to Preferences, to Scratch Disks.
For Mac: Photoshop, to Preferences, to Scratch Disks.
In the Preferences dialog, select or deselect the active check box to enable or disable a scratch disk. I chose my another drive, since C drive doesn't have enough space. I will return to C drive after cleaning some files to increase this drive space.
Click OK. To apply the changes, restart Photoshop. You may not have to restart Photoshop like me!
Here, another issue you may consider.
By default, Photoshop attempts to auto-recover document in case of an unexpected Photoshop exit, such as a crash or computer reboot.
Disable the auto-recover option to save space.
To disable this go to:
Edit (for Windows), Photoshop (for Mac). to Preferences, to File Handling, to Automatically Save Recovery Information Every: [10 Minutes]. Uncheck it. Click Ok.
If Photoshop 2019, or earlier, cannot launch because the scratch disk is full. Hold down the Cmd + Option keys (for mac OS), Ctrl + Alt keys (for Windows), during launch. Now you can set a new scratch disk. And Photoshop will run smoothly.
