Then, all eyes turn to Hurricane Idalia on Wednesday.
As of 11 a.m., Hurricane Idalia has winds of 85 mph and a pressure of 976 MB. It is located now in the Gulf of Mexico, to the west of the Florida Keys.
A Hurricane Warning is in place for coastal Florida from the Tampa area to Apalachicola and St. George Island. This also stretches further inland, including southern counties near the Valdosta area in Georgia. More south Georgia counties and coastal Georgia counties are in a Tropical Storm Warning. This extends up the coast into South Carolina as well.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been extended into Crisp, Wilcox, Dodge, Telfair, Wheeler, and Montgomery Counties.
A Tropical Storm Watch is also now in place for Dooly, Pulaski, Bleckley, Laurens, Treutlen, Johnson, and Emanuel Counties.
This storm is beginning to undergo what we call "rapid intensification" due to the warm water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico. There will be plenty of energy for this storm to feed off of.
The plan is for the storm to come ashore somewhere in the Big Bend region of Florida as a major hurricane. Then, track just to our southeast through coastal Georgia and reemerge over the Atlantic in the vicinity of Savannah.
The latest runs of the GRAF model bring the storm ashore near Steinhatchee, FL, then cross the state line near Valdosta, and weaken as it moves towards Savannah. In this scenario, we would be looking a tropical storm force winds in points south and east of Macon from noon until 7 p.m. Wednesday. Additionally, rainfall totals would top 3" in areas like Dublin, Eastman, and Soperton.
However, it is worth noting that the GFS continues to nudge the storm just a little west of the forecast track from the National Hurricane Center and from what the GRAF model is showing.
