With the rise of rival promotions, everyone expected WWE to put their best efforts into retaining the talents so they wouldn't jump the ship. On the contrary and to everyone's surprise, WWE shocked everyone throughout 2021 by releasing a significant batch of talent almost every month, citing them as "Budget Cuts".
While some of these releases were anticipated, a major chunk of the cuts including the likes of Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, Keith Lee, Samoa Joe, among others, surprised the fans and didn't sit well with them, leading to WWE being on the receiving side of heavy criticism.
