Welcome to a new vfx course. This course is all about art directing RBD simulations.
We will bring in the geometry and prepare it for fracturing. Using a custom setup we will be able to control the fracture, to have more pieces and detail only where it's needed.
Then we can setup the main RBD simulation. Using custom solvers and attributes, we will be able to control the simulation and constraints
in a very art directable manner.
Based on the RBD sim, we can then create a pyro simulation that's driven by the initial fracture, and also interracts with the pieces. Additionally, we'll
generate smaller debris instances using POPS.
After we complete all simulations we will tackle retiming. Each layer will need a different approach to retiming, so we will cover a lot of techniques here.
Finally we'll create some atmospheric volumes and start rendering.
I'll show you how to create a custom crystal material in redshift, and how to blend it with the original stone material.
We're also going to set up a bunch of AOVs that will help us later in compositing.
In Nuke we start by recreating the beauty pass and adding all of the layers together.
Using the AOVs we have, we will create a new custom layer for the glowing parts inside the crystal.
Here we also discuss best practices when dealing with depth of field and how to solve various issues that you might encounter.
Finally we will add some post fx such as glow and flares to complete the render.
