If The Summer I Turned Pretty merged with Cheaper by the Dozen, you would get Netflix’s new teen drama, My Life With the Walter Boys. The coming-of-age series is based on the book of the same name written by Ali Novak — initially published by the author on Wattpad when she was just 15 years old. In the Netflix adaptation, we’re introduced to 15-year-old Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez), an aspiring Princeton student who transports from NYC to Colorado following the tragic death of her family in a car accident. She moves in with her new guardian (and mother’s best friend from Columbia University) Katherine Walter (Sarah Rafferty), her husband George (Marc Blucas), and their ten kids (who are mostly young boys), spanning the ages of five to 21. Two of Katherine’s boys, Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex (Ashby Gentry) take an immediate interest in Jackie, marking the start of a messy love triangle in the confines of a small-town high school filled with mean girls, ex-girlfriends, football, parties, and a lot of drama. The kind and thoughtful brother Alex Walter (Ashby Gentry) makes a move on Jackie, and they are coupled up for most of the season. But that doesn’t stop Alex’s “player” older brother and former quarterback Cole (Noah LaLonde) from making their relationship difficult (and eventually telling Jackie how much he wants her). If you’ve made it to the end of My Life With the Walter Boys, you likely have questions about the show’s ending, including which brother Jackie chose to be with. Warning: Spoilers ahead! In the final scene of My Life with the Walter Boys, Jackie is on a plane headed back to New York City with her Uncle Richard (Alex Quijano). The night before, while helping Danny (Connor Stanhope) pack for Julliard, she discovers her sister’s teacup that Cole fixed for her with a note that reads, “Nothing is so broken that it can’t be fixed,” a saying Jackie’s mom would recite to her. Jackie finds Cole in the barn and confronts him about the teacup and his intentions. While he insists there is no meaning behind it, Jackie steps closer to him and kisses Cole. They have an intense make-out session in the barn while Alex is asleep after drinking too much at their brother’s wedding the same night. While Alex wakes up, he finds a note on Jackie’s bed that reads, “I’m sorry.” He runs into his brother’s room to confront him with the letter, but Cole is just as surprised that Jackie is no longer there. In the final scene, we see Jackie with her Uncle Richard on a flight headed back to Manhattan. However, the ending of the Netflix series is much different than that of the book. In the novel, Jackie tells Cole about her feelings, and Alex overhears their conversation. After talking it through, Alex and Jackie determine that they would be better off as friends, leaving a romantic relationship open for Jackie and Cole in the future. Jackie doesn’t choose Alex or Cole in the season 1 finale of My Life with the Walter Boys.
