With the advancement of portable devices and modern web APIs, it is now possible to create web applications that can scan and render QR codes directly from the browser. What kind of applications are possible if communications no longer require API calls? Imagine a world where two applications can communicate directly when in physical view of each other. No platform lock-in, proprietary APIs, or application downloads required. With modern PWA standards, all of this can also be nicely packaged into a dedicated app directly from the browser.
This talk explores the possibilities of creating message-less applications that communicate via QR codes. The talk describes the adventure around creating an app using QR code communication for a local business. Taking something as simple as QR codes to replace API heavy applications that can work both online and offline using modern web technologies, javascript, and open-source. Of course, a live demo is included!
