Biophotonics is a rapidly emerging field arising from the convergence of optics and life sciences. Light interacts with living systems at a molecular level and generates high resolution images. This optical imaging technology promises to revolutionize the field of medicine due to its comparatively lower cost and high sensitivity, combined with minimal toxicity. It offers tremendous potential for early detection, diagnostics and treatment of disease.
Join Sangeeta Murugkar, a professor in Carleton's Department of Physics, for a talk on past developments, current work and future trends in optical imaging techniques in biomedicine.
Where: Ottawa Public Library, Sunnyside Branch, 1049 Bank Street.
When: Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 pm.
The free 20-minute discussion will be followed by a question and answer session. The Science Café series takes place every second Wednesday until Dec. 11, 2013.
The Science Café series is organized by the Faculty of Science at Carleton University to discuss relevant issues facing our society and how science can help solve real-world problems. Meet some of our award-winning faculty members and graduate students as they share their excitement about science with the community. For more information, visit Sciencecafe.Carleton.ca.
