In August 2022, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that carriers no longer needed to maintain their copper line network and also removed pricing protections on these copper phone lines. While still prevalent on many commonly used lines such as elevator phones, building entry systems, fire alarms and security systems, it is not always the case that these lines are just turned off. Instead, customers are receiving less support and are now seeing their phone bills steadily increase.
