In this episode, our host, Muhammad Ali Hassan, CEO of Al-Burraq Technologies (LLC), sits down with Jake, Jake has built web-based solutions for the Fortune 500, U.S. government, universities, big media, and high profile non-profits, among others, since the mid 90s. Jake is the Founder, President, and owner of 10up, a full service agency that makes a better web with finely crafted websites and tools for content creators. Clients include media giants like ESPN & Time, cause-based organizations like TED, JDRF, and World Economic Forum, tech giants like Google & Microsoft, retailers like Walmart and Kate Spade, and universities like Northeastern and University of Maine.
Jake organically grew 10up from a 1 man show (himself!) to over 100 employees with dozens of brand name clients in under 5 years. Today, 10up is recognized as one of the top businesses leveraging WordPress to create great websites and platforms.
Jake started focusing on open web content management platforms like WordPress in 2006, while managing the interactive division of a 100-person contractor focused on government clients. In 2009, while Technology Director at an agency in Rhode Island, he focused his attention on WordPress, releasing free plug-ins, diverting new projects to the platform, and engaging the community. His leadership transformed that agency from a 3-man team serving a niche CMS to an open source agency with over a dozen employees.
Jake has been a writer and expert reviewer for Smashing Magazine, taught WordPress development at Boston University, and has spoken at conferences and programs around the country. He helped organize the first WordCamp Boston in 2010 and founded the WordPress meetups in Providence and Sacramento. He is a core contributor to WordPress, and maintains some of the highest rated plug-ins on the official repository. Cumulatively, they have been downloaded over one million times.
