This 30 minute yoga practice for backbends is based on traditional yoga asanas with an addition of some fluid movements to strengthen your back muscles and awaken energy along the spine. Our peak asana for this 30 min yoga practice to improve backbends will be Wheel Pose. This practice is tailored towards beginners and intermediate level practitioners who work on improving their backbends.
This Yoga Flow to Wheel Pose will begin with a round of Sun Salutations to create heat in the body and to warm up into the hips as we go through low knelling lunge positions. Then we will take time to warm up our back and side body. Standing poses will follow next before we focus more on hip flexor and quad stretches. As we come down towards the mat our body will be ready to open deeper in a full wheel pose.
“Breathe and Flow” through this backbend yoga practice while we create space through the entire front side of the body, learn to let go of unnecessary tension and to trust the universe as we allow ourselves to dive deeper into the space beyond our vision. Our breath will guide us, it will reveal places of tension and it will teach us how we can learn to surrender. Surrender, Let go, Release to find Strength and Power within us.
Remember that flexibility takes time and regular practice. So be mindful of every movement and stretch, let go of any goals and expectations and only go as deep into each pose as your body is willing to do it today. Listen carefully to my guidance for each pose. You can repeat this 30 min yoga practice to improve backbends | Yoga flow to Wheel Pose as often as it feels necessary for your body.
No equipment is necessary for this practice (except blocks for lizard lunge). Do your best, stay patient and grateful for all the change you are creating.
