Experimenting with a Billion-Dollar Idea: Picking Bird's Nest Feathers with the Delta X S Robot
Did you know, in Vietnam, there's a delicacy that's incredibly expensive yet highly sought after for its nutritional value? It's the bird's nest, made from the saliva of swiftlets. These nests are turned into nutritious drinks and soups to improve the health of the sick. Priced like gold, 100g of bird's nest can cost up to $160. Every year, Vietnam produces 150 tons of bird's nests, with projections to reach 400 tons for export to China. By 2030, the total value of bird's nests produced in Vietnam could reach billions of dollars annually. However, before these nests can be used, they must first be cleaned of swiftlet feathers. This is a labor-intensive and costly process, typically requiring $20 in labor to process 100g. This means annually, between 25 to $60 million is spent just to remove feathers from the nests, and currently, there's a labor shortage in Vietnam to process all the nests produced. Therefore, if this process could be automated with robots at a lower cost than manual labor, it could revolutionize this billion-dollar industry. My market research found that only one company from China manufactures such a robot, priced at $25,000. Hardly a formula for a revolution. Thus, I'm experimenting with the idea of using the Delta X S D400 robot, costing between $3,000 to $4,000. I will use a camera for feather detection, a mechanism to hold and rotate the nest, and a milling tip to extract the feathers. Let's start the experiment to see if it's effective.
