15 Minute Sewing Challenge- for beginners
The easiest drink coaster sewing project and handmade gift ever! Take the challenge. Seriously, an entire set of these took about 15 minutes to make. This video took 40 minutes to make.
This is a super simple, beginner friendly sewing project even a child can do for stocking stuffers, teachers' gifts, Mother's Day gifts, hospital stay gifts, thank you gift etc.

To make these quick and easy drink coasters set you need:
MATERIALS:
100% Cotton Fabric is best, you can use denim material as well.
Two cake layers (10″ squares), or 1 fat quarter (cut in half), or 10" patchwork fabric
10″ square batting
Pinking shears
Bias Tape (Optional)
Sewing Steps and Instructions:
Step 1: First make sure you have 3 pieces of fabric, (2 pieces of 100% Cotton fabric of your choice and 1 piece of cotton batting measuring 10" each)
Step 2: Make a sandwich with your two cake layers and batting with right sides facing out on your fabrics. (Pretty sides of the fabric facing up)
Step 3: Cut around your edges and baste stitch (longest length) all the way around to keep the fabrics together.
Step 4: Sew down the middle from one end and then the middle from the other end to create 4 quarters. (You are creating a single line cross in this area like +)
Step 5: Make a circle template (4″ diameter) and draw a circle in each square. (You can use a coffee mug as a circle template or any circle using your preferred fabric marking tool)
Step 6: Sew around the circle using a stitch length of 2.5 (2 1/2).
Step 7: Cut out your squares. (Do not cut out your circles just the squares, separating them.
Step 8: Cut out each circle about 1/4″ away from your stitch with pinking shears.
Congrats! You just made Fabric Drink Coasters. You can stop here or continue with the next steps if you choose.
Step 9: Optional- you can add bias binding to your coaster for a more finished look. (If you know how to do this)
