🦷 Most of the time we cannot see the crack in the tooth. So, we are going off of your symptoms.
Here is the typical treatment process:
1️⃣ The tooth needs a crown. The crown will help support and strengthen the tooth & help reduce the chance of that crack getting bigger.
👉🏼If not a crown, a temporary should be put on the tooth to see if that eliminates the biting discomfort.
😰If you’re still having discomfort with the crown or temporary - this may be a sign that the crack is deeper and closer to the nerve of the tooth.
2️⃣Root canal is the next step. If you get to this stage, you and your dentist should have a discussion about potentially extracting the tooth.
👉🏼A cracked tooth that has had a crown & a root canal has a questionable long term prognosis.
‼️All of this will just depend on the specific tooth, your time, your finances & what is important to you.
