In this video, Steve Caseley covers how to write good User Stories and the importance they have as the foundation of Agile Scrum Development. User Stories are the main (and arguably the only) vehicle that’s used to communicate the business requirements to the project team user.
User Stories are predominantly created by the project owner and other subject matter experts within the business area. They can also be generated by the project team when the team has a specific technical requirement. Still, the focus of user stories is the communication of business requirements to the team. If you’re using a manual method, they’re typically written on three and a half by five index cards, although there are a number of automated tools you can use. The key to generating good user stories is to restrict the level of information that you’re going to contain. The image of an index card is useful because that’s generally the limit of the amount of information you want to include.
