A very basic but important procedure on most motherboards of today. Especially on AMD platforms the motherboards are usually supported for a very long time even with new CPU launches. If you want to keep going with an old X470 motherboard for example and use a brand-new Ryzen 5000 series CPU, you need to update the motherboard's BIOS before you can run that new CPU in the old motherboard.
The most primitive way to do that is to use a very old Ryzen CPU launched for that old motherboard to update the BIOS first, then swap the new CPU in and run the new configuration normally. But most of us might not have that old CPU, so in the worst case it would mean either loaning one from a friend, or even purchasing one and then returning it after doing the BIOS update. The most simple way is to use the BIOS Flashback utility that is now present on a wide range of motherboards from different vendors to update the BIOS even without a CPU or RAM installed. You only need passive power from the power supply to do it, so only the 24-pin connected on the motherboard.
On the video I flash the BIOS of this Crosshair VIII Impact as it was launched before the release of the new Ryzen 5000 series CPUs as I want to run the 6-core 5600X on that board.
