Immigration has drastically changed Indianapolis over the past 15 years. The change has been subtle enough to where it's gone practically unnoticed by some, but schools have had to adjust rapidly as they have faced major changes in the populations they serve.

There are upwards of 70 languages being spoken in some Marion County districts. Some schools have adapted well to their expanded population of English language learners. Others are struggling.

A panel of educators and experts, moderated by Chalkbeat Indiana reporter Hayleigh Colombo, will focus on the issues, challenges and successes ELL students face in our schools. It will also seek to explore how our schools can better serve students learning English as a new language and what's different about schools that have adapted well to the changes.

The panel will feature sources from Chalkbeat's Lost in Translation series, including: IPS School 79 Principal Joyce Akridge, refugee advocate May Oo Mutraw, IPS teacher Eddie Rangel and Southport High School student Elly Mawi.
