** SHORTENED TRANSCRIPT **
Jumping in: the first trick is to ‘Auto-Stack by Capture Time’.
Select all of the images at the same time under the Library panel, then right-click on any one of them, scroll down to ‘Stacking’, then choose ‘Auto-Stack by Capture Time’.
A new window will pop up, asking you to set the time between stacks and actually showing you how many stacks will be created. And because HDR Mode will take all three pictures in the span of a few seconds, you can easily set this to about five seconds and hit ‘OK’. This will immediately group all of your pictures that were taken within five seconds of each other in the Library panel.
And now, you can actually hit CTRL + H or CMD + H to automatically generate HDRs for every single stack.
The second trick is to ‘Match Total Exposures’.
This feature can match the exposure of a group of pictures to make all of them look consistent.
Under the Develop panel in Lightroom, I selected the very first cloudy picture, and I set the exposure to what I wanted. Then, I shift-clicked all the way to the last cloudy picture, and under the Settings menu, I chose ‘Match Total Exposures’. You can also hit ALT + SHIFT + CTRL + M or ALT + SHIFT + CMD + M to accomplish the same thing.
The third trick is to create presets for locations you regularly shoot at.
Now hold on - before you click away, I know some of you are thinking: “Uh, obviously - that’s the point of a preset.”
And I understand that. But the real trick is to use a radial filter when creating the preset, instead of dialing it in with the basic panel sliders.
Why, you might ask?
With the basic panel sliders, I have no ability to adjust the overall intensity of the preset. Even if I figure out exactly what settings I like for a specific location, there might be a few pictures where I find the look is too intense, and I want to dial it back. And the only way I can do that is by manually adjusting each slider.
But if I create a radial filter over my entire picture and punch in the same settings, I can actually hold down ALT while clicking on it, and then drag left or right to reduce the intensity of every slider at the same time.
The fourth trick is the ‘level’ feature in the Transform panel.
This feature can automatically correct the horizon of your pictures to make everything appear level.
Now anybody who shoots outside of a studio or a controlled environment can appreciate this feature. A lot of photographers will tell you to just ‘get it right in camera’ - but when you’re shooting a moving subject while handheld, it really isn’t that simple.
So instead, head down to the transform panel, then click ‘Level’. Not only will your horizon be level, but if you synchronize it across multiple pictures, the adjustment will be made for every single one.
Now the fifth and final trick is pretty simple: it involves batch exporting.
If you previously watched my workflow video - you know that I have three export presets: full resolution, high resolution, and web resolution.
But what I didn’t mention is that if you tick off the checkbox next to each preset name, you can export multiple copies of your pictures using multiple presets at the same time.
