Since we developed the ability to talk, we’ve been thrust into a game.
The social game.
And we’ve received many conflicting signals as to how to play this game.
Perhaps we’ve been convinced we must flaunt our feathers to show our status or we need to remark all the wonderful things we’ve done in our lives during conversation so we can keep the spotlight on us.
Or maybe we’ve been taught never to speak before others and downplay all our successes in case we ruffle another’s feathers.
Whatever the case, it seems we’ve been conditioned to play this game to impress others and reduce the chances of ostracism at any chance.
But then we meet someone who shocks us out of our egotism.
At first glance this person seems to be a quiet soul, intent on listening and observing. When moving they seem to float with the grace of a feather and when deciding they always appear to land on their feet, regardless of their decision outcome being fruitful or a disaster.
They hanker not to compliment themselves or appear a certain way to others, and we can’t help but be in rapture over their social ease and feel an intense magnetic pull to be in their presence. It appears who they are behind closed doors is precisely who they are at a lively social gathering, and we can’t help wonder what the secret is to their magnetism.
Why, despite all the flashy things in the world, are we drawn to this figure of immense stillness and simplicity?
