We are pleased to introduce you the ensemble "Hovon" (Sisters). They are known in Azerbaijan simply as "Talysh Grandmathers".
We meet these ladies in Separadi village in the evening before they left to Baku for participating in a TV-show. They dressed up into traditional clothes for us, answered few questions and sang the song.
These ladies speak poor Azerbaijani with a strong Talysh accent... That is why it was really hard to translate the interview and the song into English. We tried to translate it preserving the atmosphere of their speech, we translated almost literally.
Translating the song was an interesting challenge. Not so many Azerbaijani could actually understand what this song is about and metafors, these ladies used, also did not help understanding...
This song is about the girl, who loved the man. He also was in love with her, but was indecisive. The girl refused the best groom in the village because of her lover and felt betrayed because of lover's inactivity.
Probably the man is indecisive because she is youngest doughter in the house and according to tradition she must wait while her sister will get married.
Finaly the girl run away to him in the night and they made love. The man is shocked, but now he have to marry her decpite he is afraid.
