Daylight Talk #18: Light, Views, Transparencies with Liene Jākobsone
Discussing some of the practice’s projects, the lecture will reveal a significant part of the conceptual approach of Sampling: the exploration of how architecture unfolds in the eyes of its inhabitants and what unexpected and unusual experiences it can offer.
About Liene Jākobsone
Liene Jākobsone is the founding partner of the architecture and design office Sampling – an architecture and design practice that works interdisciplinary, internationally, and conceptually. It is led by Liene Jākobsone and Manten Devriendt, who founded the practice in 2010. Sampling has carried out a vast range of projects: buildings and reconstructions of various kinds of program, development concepts for larger territories, as well as exposition and product designs. Its projects have been extensively published, and received a number of awards, prizes and other kinds of recognitions.
Liene Jākobsone is actively involved also in academia. She chairs the Institute of Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture of the Art Academy of Latvia; she holds a PhD degree, a master’s degree in design, and a diploma in architecture. She collaborates internationally on research projects and lectures at the Art Academy of Latvia as well as other universities in Europe. Liene is a frequent speaker also in non-academic public events, where she contributes with her multidisciplinary knowledge and capacity to captivate the attention of various audiences.
