Johnny Wahl, 42 years old, fisherman in Île d'Oléron. In his family, we are fisherman from generation to generation. Johnny decides to train as a sailor at the age of 16 on small boats alongside skippers. In the summer, he mainly fishes at night because of the tourists. His technique is longline fishing, an ancestral technique. A committed actor in favor of sustainable fishing, Johnny is the President of the ADAMP association which defends small-scale fishermen on the island of Oléron. His greatest pride is his daughter Anaïs, whom he has taken fishing since childhood. To avoid hurting him, he can't help but release the fish alive. Johnny is going to Senegal for two weeks, to the fishing district of Saint-Louis. He will live this adventure thanks to Khadim, a local fisherman who will host him. The house of his host is a first shock: here, no living room, no dining room, but one and the same room to shelter the ten members of the family. Johnny will be confronted with a reality that he did not suspect. He who, in France, fights for eco-responsible fishing, will discover a world where all these values have no meaning. In Saint-Louis, we fish to survive. Thus, Johnny will relearn how to fish "the old way". He will also endure a perilous fishing campaign in Mauritania: the fishermen of Saint-Louis venture illegally beyond their borders for an entire night, on a 25-meter canoe with a dozen men and without lights to avoid not get caught by the coast guard. They will bring up 25 tons of sardines, by the strength of their arms. The most memorable navigation of its existence.
