Critical minerals are vital for clean energy, semiconductors, and defense technologies. However, the U.S. does not have the mineral reserves it needs to meet domestic consumption. Advancing US critical minerals security will require economic diplomacy, soft power, and smart public-private partnerships in resource-rich emerging markets.
Helaina Matza, Acting Special Coordinator for the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) will join Gracelin Baskaran, Director, Project on Critical Minerals Security, CSIS, to discuss how the U.S. can create more resilient supply chains, the role of international partnerships in advancing strategic minerals security goals, the flagship Lobito Corridor, and how to create a more mutually beneficial model of mining for resource-rich countries.
This event is made possible by general funding to CSIS and the CSIS Project on Critical Minerals Security.
