NBA greats are constantly frowned upon by the younger generation and thought of as "plumbers and fireman." There are far too many people from fans and players alike who diminish the achievements of those who came before simply because they played in an earlier time while players of today have far more advantages from health and fitness to money and more yet can't seem to play half a season. The "We done with the 90s" trend was just the latest in a long line of disrespect and indifference towards the before years, yet old heads have blame in this affair as well.
