Difference between Inbound Rule and Outbound Rule
Inbound Rules: filter traffic passing from the network to the local computer based on the filtering conditions specified in the rule.
Outbound Rules: filter traffic passing from the local computer to the network based on the filtering conditions specified in the rule.
Echo (7 Outbound Rule)
• Port Number: 7
• TCP / UDP: UDP
• Protocol / Name: Echo
• Port Description: Echo. Used to trouble-shoot remote TCP/IP stacks (telnet to remote echo port, like ping command
Name Server (42 Inbound Rule)
• Port Number: 42
• TCP / UDP: TCP
• Protocol / Name: Name Server
• Port Description: Host Name Server. It is currently used by Microsoft hosts for WINS server for NetBIOS name resolves.
