Zero Wing is a horizontally-scrolling shooter released by Toaplan into the arcades in 1989. In 1991 Toaplan ported the game to the Mega Drive and released it in Japan. That same year Sega published the game in Europe, where it gained infamy for its comically-poor translation.
Zero Wing's soundtrack was written by Tatsuya Uemura. American Techno group The Laziest Men on Mars remixed a number of tracks from the game, and in 2001 a video was uploaded to the Newgrounds website featuring animation created by Bad CRC, using visuals from the game's intro along with a large number of custom-made images, playing over a TLMoM remix of the original Zero Wing intro music called "Invasion of the Gabber Robots". The popularity of the video led to "All Your Base are Belong to Us" becoming one of the earliest examples of meme fame, and made Zero Wing a far more well-known game in North America than it otherwise would have been.
This video was created by downloading the original .SFW file, playing it back in a Flash emulator called "Ruffle" at a higher resolution and recording the output in OBS. As the audio embedded in the video is of low quality, a copy of the original "Invasion of the Gabber Robots" was used instead. The background is simply the first level of Zero Wing, made blurry so that the Flash video sticks out in the foreground.
