Hello everybody, Welcome to Selenium 4 Beginners. My name is Rex Allen Jones II. In this video, I am going to demonstrate how to change the default JRE for all projects. There are times when we upgrade to a new Java version and the old version remains in Eclipse. Therefore the goal is to show you how to add the new version and make it show up for all workspaces.
Right now, we have an empty Java work area. I will create a new Java Project by going to File - New - Project. Next, I will select Java Project then click the Next button. Here’s the issue, a lot of people come across when they upgrade their Java Version. The JRE section does not default to the upgraded version. In my case, I updated from Version 8 to Version 9 but my JRE section still defaults to Java Version 8.
I would like for all of my projects to default to Version 9. We can select Java Version 9 from the drop down box but it will not show up for all projects. It will only show Version 9 for this project. In order to show your desired JRE version every time, we must add that version to Installed JREs.
Let’s go to Window - Preferences - Java - Installed JREs. In this dialog, we see jre 8 but not jre 9 so let’s add Version 9. Click the Add button, select Standard VM, then click Next. Enter JRE home by going to our Directory. Navigate to the location of your desired jre version. I am going to This PC - C Drive - Program Files - Java - jre-9.0.4 then click the OK button. If you want, feel free to change the JRE name. I am going to change the name to JRE Version 9 then click the Finish button.
The description states “By default, the checked JRE is added to the build path of newly created Java projects”. Therefore, we change the default from Version 8 to Version 9 by clicking the checkbox for JRE Version 9 followed by clicking the Apply and Close button.
Now, let’s go to a new Java Project and verify Version 9 is the default JRE. Go to File - New - Project. Select Java Project, Next. The JRE section displays Version 9. I am going to create a new project and confirm the version. Project name will be Online Training – Teaching then click the Finish button. Open Perspective, click the drop down for the project and yes. The JRE System Library is Java Version 9. That’s it for How To Change The Default JRE For All Eclipse Projects. Thank You
