1,500 drones formed a huge QR code over Shanghai in celebration of the anniversary of an role-playing game (RPG).
The QR code, when scanned, redirected players to the H5 download page of Princess Connect: Re Dive, an RPG developed by Japanese game developer Cygames.
It looked like a scene straight out of Blade Runner!
This was not the first time drone shows like this happened over the skies of Shanghai, though.
✅ On March 29 of the same year, Hyundai launched their luxury brand Genesis by sending 3,000 drones in the sky for a captivating nighttime show. The show even broke Guinness record for “the most unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) airborne simultaneously.”
The drone show staged by Cygames, however, was innovative in a whole new level.
The sky was filled with artistic choreographies, gameplays, and characters found in the game itself. But what wowed the audience was when the drones formed a huge QR code toward the end of the show.
The mesmerized crowd promptly took out their smartphones and scanned the gigantic QR code.
After scanning, people were taken to the H5 page of the game where they can learn more about the game, download, and install the game on their smartphones.
Not only did the QR code lead to game downloads and installs; it also kept the audience talking even after the show.
Is this the what the future looks like? For sure we will be seeing more QR code ads in the sky in the years to come.
