Summer of 2023, the American Indian Cultural District brought the local American Indian community together at Crissy Field Center to discuss how they wish to shape the future of land use and climate resilience. We spoke with local American Indian and Alaskan Native community members who attended the event and discussed building meaningful relationships, expanding access to nature and open space, and the importance of supporting their vision for land use within our national parks. Thank you to Gregg Castro, Cultural Director, The Association of Ramaytush Ohlone; Sharaya Souza, Executive Director, American Indian Cultural District; Dr. Elizabeth Parent, Professor Emeritus, San Francisco State University; Rodney Little Bird, Artist and Community Ambassador for the American Indian Cultural District; and Stephanie Rivera, Community Advocate and San Francisco State University Student. The event was hosted by the American Indian Cultural District, The Association of Ramaytush Ohlone, The Cultural Conservancy, Friendship House Association of American Indians, San Francisco Unified School District Indian Education Program, and Partnership for the Presidio.
