Sharing video streams between applications. Syphon and Spout! In this video I will cover the Syphon and Spout SDK's that allow applications to share textures and video with one another. This has some great benefits such as near zero lag and very little cpu overhead. Syphon and Spout are really great since they allow a system designer to use whatever applications they want without being constrained. One limitation of Syphon and Spout is that it only allows the sharing of video streams between applications that are on the same computer. Under the hood Spout and Syphon use a technique called texture sharing that allows multiple processes to access the same video stream.
