Life (in America) is Hard - I Should Never Have Traveled
My understanding and experience of America as a country compared to where I was born and raised, which is Cameroon, has radically changed over the past four years. Four years ago, on 28th June 2018, I landed at the port of entry in New York. That was my first time taking a plane, leaving Cameroon, and my family, and moving to the U.S. There are so many things that I didn't know before then, things that I may be read in books heard on podcasts, read articles about that they say - you know -life is difficult in America.
There's a lot of debt. Culture's different, there's racism and a lot of things that were not exactly what I'd experienced in Cameroon growing up until my late twenties. The change that has occurred for me, the way I see America now is not just that life in America is hard it's that life is hard. In this video, I want to share with you a couple of thoughts that I have and questions that possibly could help you to navigate this journey.
