Mad Max is an Australian multimedia franchise in the science fiction genre, featuring action elements set in a post-apocalyptic future. It was created by George Miller and James McCausland. It began in 1979 with the movie Mad Max, followed by Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). Miller directed or co-directed all four films. Mel Gibson played the main character, Max Rockatansky, in the first three films, while Tom Hardy took over the role in Mad Max: Fury Road.
