China-India border tensions intensify
중국-인도 국경분쟁 일촉즉발…印, 美와 '전쟁준비 합동훈련'
A weeks-long military standoff over a piece of land between China and India is showing no signs of cooling.
China is insisting that India unilaterally withdraw its troops from the remote Doklam plateau claimed by both Beijing and Indian ally Bhutan.
But, India is also angry that China is not responding to its request for Chinese troops to pull back a couple hundred meters.
Also, in an apparent preparation for possible conflict and show of force, New Delhi is reportedly scheduled to hold joint military drills with the U.S. in the middle of next month.
The standoff in the region, which China calls Donglang, began in mid-June when Indian soldiers were dispatched there to stop a Chinese construction crew from extending a road.
