DJI MAVIC 2 PRO - BEST CAMERA SETTINGS for VIDEO!
The DJI Mavic 2 Pro is already out for a while and there are many videos about the best settings. But all the videos make one mistake. And that is that they don't take into account that you should adjust your settings depending on the shot.
The reason for that is simply that the DJI Mavic 2 Pro uses a highly compressed format. You shoot either in HEVC 100mbit/s or in MP4 100mbit/s, depending on your settings. The problem with that is that it makes it very hard for the codec to save all the information from the camera. And that becomes especially hard if you shoot in a flat color profile like D-LOG M.
Luckily, you can make it a bit easier for the codec to save all the information. You can simply do that by using your histogram. So at first, you make sure that your Mavic 2 Pro records in HEVC and in D-LOG M with sharpness to 0 to prevent mushy footage, contrast -3 and saturation -3. Cuz that's the settings that usually save the most details. You also want to turn on your histogram. Also, turn the D-LOG M preview on.
Now you start your drone and you point it in the direction you want to film and set your exposure correctly. After doing that you should have a look at your histogram at first. If the histogram is stretched all fro 0 to 100 or even a bit smaller, that's good as you already capture the most detail.
But if your histogram looks very small and compressed, you should go back into your settings and increase the contrast until the histogram nearly stretches from 0 to 100. That makes it a lot easier for the codec to save all the details in a flat profile like D-LOG M.
After doing that you also want to review the saturation of your image. If you can clearly see all the colors, it's all good. But if not, you also want to change your saturation until it looks around good. That setting also makes it easier for the DJI Mavic 2 Pro to capture color information at best.
And there you have it. When you always do these steps and choose the best settings for all of your shots, you will get a lot better quality.
