Hurt (by Stimmtalent | Inken Paletta) (Original: Johnny Cash)
Many years ago (2011), I was asked by a Finn in a karaoke bar in Helsinki, if I would sing "Hurt" from Johnny Cash for him. Those times I had to reject, because I didn't know the song quite well.
Some weeks ago I was asked again to try my own cover version by Udo, my guitar teacher and passionate musician. So I thought maybe I really should give the song a try.
The original of the song "Hurt" is a rock song of Trent Reznor (1994), the singer of the band Nine Inch Nails. Johnny Cash made a cover of the song in 2002, one year before he died.
For me his version is one of the most difficult songs to cover, musically and emotionally, because Cash processed in that song among other things his drug abuse of the past.
And I think, that song contains also a lot of grief about his behaviour and that he put all that on his wife June's shoulders.
So it was really a challenge to put in the right emotions in that cover song. But I think I did it quite well.
