Medieval Warfare Films generally cover the Medieval Era (aka Dark Ages and Middle Ages) from 500 AD to 1500 AD. For Medieval Warfare, we also include war films from the Medieval Asia era from China's Sui Dynasty (581 - 618 AD) up to the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644 AD), Korea's Gogureyo Kingdom and the early years of the Joseon Dynasty (1397 - 1897 AD) and Feudal Japan from 1185 Ad - 1568 AD.
Films about medieval warfare often show the technological development of weapons of the time including the sword, crossbow, longbow and pike and new battlefield tactics involving cavalry and artillery. The emergence of the defensive castle also led to innovations with battering rams, siege towers and trebuchets which all became obsolete once the medieval cannon was developed in the late 14th century.
Some of the famous events featuring warfare from this time include the Siege of Jerusalem in 1187 AD by Saladin's Muslim army and Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297 between the English and Scottish (famously depicted in Braveheart). Also included are films based on legends such as King Arthur from English mythology and Mulan from Chinese mythology.
