Sunroofs are the most in-demand feature on new cars in India: Why & How
Until a decade ago, the sunroof was a rare feature on cars sold in India, and restricted primarily to the luxury segment. Fast forward to today and now the sunroof, indeed the dual-pane panoramic sunroof has become almost a hygiene feature on new cars and SUVs. The new Mahindra Thar ROXX for example has the largest panoramic sunroof in the C-Segment SUV class with a 1450mm x 900mm glass area. The Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti-Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder all feature large dual-pane panoramic sunroofs as well as does the latest entrant into the segment the Tata Curvv.
But why are Indians obsessing about sunroofs in a country that is extremely hot, extremely wet and very dusty? ThePrint's contributing editor and automotive journalist @kushanmitra tries to get some answers.
