The Montevideo Convention, established in 1933, sets out the criteria for statehood in international law. According to the convention, a state must possess a defined territory, a permanent population, a government, and the capacity to enter into relations with other states. For a micronation, which typically struggles with legitimacy and recognition on the global stage, obtaining recognition from a sovereign nation is a monumental achievement.
