Gnuplot is a portable command-line driven graphing utility for Linux, MS Windows, MacOS and many other platforms. It was originally created to allow scientists and students to visualize mathematical functions and data interactively. Gnuplot has been supported and under active development since 1986, and is really good at graphing data when working on the command line, especially remotely over an SSH connection. Gnuplot is widely available and is installed by default on most compute clusters. It is a stand-alone application and does not require any additional dependencies to run. It is best for creating 2D plots and, while Gnuplot is relatively easy to use, it is capable of creating publication-quality, professionally-looking graphs that are easy to comprehend.
In this webinar we cover how to use Gnuplot to plot functions and data, how to use its fitting capability, and some other advanced features.
