KDE Plasma 5.27: Flatpak Permissions Settings, Plasma Welcome, Tiling & Multi-Monitor Improvements
In This Video We Are Looking At KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS Beta. The beta for KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS will be released today, January 19th, and the stable version will be released on February 14th. The new Plasma version is based on KDE Frameworks 5.102 and Qt 5.15.2. KDE Plasma 5.27 is not only remarkable because of its many new features, the many bug fixes or its LTS status, it is also the last release of the desktop in KDE's fifth cycle. Plasma 5.27 is followed by Plasma 6.0 based on Qt 6 .

fractional scaling
Plasma 5.27 brings a variety of small improvements across the spectrum. Perhaps the most visually noticeable are the improvements in fractional scaling on both X11 and Wayland, where the feature is now implemented natively . And then there's the new "Welcome to KDE Plasma," a customizable welcome screen for the distributions.
Multi monitor support
Under X11, scaling can now be set separately for multiple monitors . After a reboot, there should no longer be any problems with incorrectly assigned components such as backgrounds, widgets or panels in multi-monitor environments. Speaking of Wayland, Plasma 5.27 now supports high-resolution scrolling in Wayland thanks to improvements in libinput 1.19 . With that, scrolling in the browser should provide smooth scrolling.
Native tiling
I already reported about the development of native tiling for KWin in November . In December the function described by Marco Martin in his blog was implemented and is now available in Plasma 5.27. Very cool feature I think.
Previously, when searching for a recently modified file with KRunner, the file was only displayed if the search pattern matched the beginning of the filename and nowhere else. This bug has been fixed. If a KRunner search returns nothing, the option to perform a web search for the search term is now offered.
Permissions for Flatpak
Flatpak is more and more accepted by the users. Previously, Fkatpaks obtained the permissions they needed to access their environment through the Flatseal app. Plasma 5.27 simplifies handling by including an authorization module in the system settings.
KDE Plasma 5.27 Beta is available for testing at KDE neon unstable or openSUSE Tumbleweed.

Other Main change includes:
1. KDE Plasma 5.27 is based on KDE Framework 5.102 and Qt 5.15.2.
2. Transition animation when changing wallpaper.
3. The weather applet now shows weather info in overlay mode.
4. The location picker in the weather applet now gives you a possible list of locations.
5. The network applet now shows 5G connection label and icons when used.
6. And hopefully, a new wallpaper as always!
KDE Plasma 5.27 will be an LTS (Long-Term Support) series that will receive updates for a couple of years until it reaches end of life.
