Treasures of the Gods - Music of Norse Mythology
Welcome to #5 in the music series "Of Fire and Ice" - Music of Norse Mythology. What did the Gods hear during their adventures? Listen to the distinct sounds of pagan frame drums and soaring targelharpa ‘fiddles’, flutes and the harp-like lyre. All this blends with orchestral instrumentation, sounds of nature and the soaring sounds of trumpet of James Hill's trumpet.
Episode #5: “Treasures of The Gods”
The trickster god Loki cuts off the hair of Sif, Thor's wife, angering Thor. To make amends, Loki promises to replace her hair with a golden creation made by skilled dwarves. To appease them, Loki commissions dwarven craftsmen to create powerful items including: Sif's golden hair; Odin's spear Gungnir; Freyr's ship Skidbladnir; Thor’s hammer Mjölnir; Odin's golden ring Draupnir; and Freyr's boar Gullinbursti. The gods receive their treasures, and Loki narrowly escapes punishment from the dwarves, but the gods now have powerful tools to defend against future threats.
