The year saw the end of Friends (the TV show, that is), the debut of Hugh Laurie as House M.D., and the return of Shrek to cinema screens. 2004 also saw a number of highs and lows in the world of video games, with the likes of Half-Life 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and World of Warcraft all releasing to tumultuous applause, and the entries on this list releasing to loud boos and jeers from audiences and critics alike.
