You can find them anywhere in Japan, but especially If you walk through a residential area, you may come across rows of plastic bottles, partially filled with water. 🚰
This is known as "nekoyoke" or cat repellants, and in Japan it's believed that the light that breaks through the water turns into a kaleidoscope that turns away cats. 🐈
Althgough a very prevalent custom in Japan, the origin comes from an April Fool's Joke told at a radio program abroad during the 1980's.
It's said that Japanese people at that time believed it and it has remained a tradition since.
Be careful if you are doing this yourself as there have been some fire hazard cases in Japan due to those water bottles.
