Visit http://go.CMS.gov/AdminSimp to learn how the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is conducting reviews for Administrative Simplification compliance. The goal is to improve electronic transactions to reduce costs for health care providers and health plans.
Toward this goal of reducing paperwork and streamlining business processes across the health care system, CMS enforces national Administrative Simplification standards. These standards apply to electronic transactions, code sets, and unique identifiers, and help information traffic move quickly and efficiently.
All HIPAA-covered entities, including health plans, clearinghouses, and health care providers, even those that do not accept Medicare and Medicaid, must follow these standards.
