It’s the People project. Today, I will show you how people live in the city that was almost wiped from the face of Earth by the Islamic State, a major terrorist organization.
I’ll walk you through the underground passages that were used by terrorists. I’ll show you the basements where they set up their hospitals and take you to the city’s tallest building that served at the time as the terrorists’ key combat outpost.
I will show you the mosque where the ISIS caliphate was declared and introduce you to many of the wonderful people of Mosul who are now readjusting to peaceful life after three years of unimaginable hell. Not so long ago, this city was had dozens or even hundreds bombs dropped on it daily. Dozens of reporters were killed here in combat. Now, it’s coming back to life.
This is Lyadov, and today I’m in Mosul, once the capital of the self-proclaimed caliphate of the Islamic State. For a long time, almost every building here looked pretty much like this, but now it’s coming back to life. But seeing all these buildings, many of them high-rises 11, 12 stories tall that have been practically reduced to rubble, is mind bending. This is something that seems entirely impossible both in terms of common sense and in terms of the laws of physics, laws of nature. Yet, right now, despite all the attempts by the terrorists to keep the city as their stronghold, the people of Mosul are getting their peaceful life back. This is Lyadov to tell you how people live in Mosul.
