The Steeple
The Whiteburg National Monument, or better known by it's nickname, The Steeple, is a towering structure built with the intention to house institutions of culture, art, science and ingenuity. The building was constructed on the site of a former Abby, which had fallen into disrepair during the Whiteburgian civil war of 1637. The skyscraper sits at the end of a long road called the Mall and over looks the entire city, from it's dense wooded parklands.
The Steeple sits within a very large city park. the parkland was brought together to form this space from various properties and other holdings of the former Abby. The Mall and roads around this area where built as part of the National Monument project and act as a main thoroughfare between then train station, Parliament and the Elizabeth bridge & Embankment.
The building has been designed as combination of various English Baroque details and tropes. The overall theme was a selection of elements from Nicolas Hawksmoor's buildings and merging them into a towering centre piece, a dream of some sort... Inspiration was taken from a painting done in the 1950's called Arcadia which takes the same idea of merging Hawksmoor's building elements into one large monument.
