Transparent Samsung Smartphone - Review. When to expect a new product? The patent, received by Samsung Electronics, describes transparent display technology for fully transparent smartphones, including flexible ones. There is already a transparent screen, the transparency of other components of the phone is questionable, as well as the practical benefits of this technology.
Samsung Electronics has patented a technology for creating a transparent display, on the basis of which it becomes possible to produce fully transparent electronics such as smartphones, televisions, monitors, laptops, game consoles, cameras and other consumer electronics.

A patent filed August 27, 2020 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) describes Samsung's manufacturing technology LCD displays based on organic light-emitting diodes (OLED).

In addition to significantly lower power consumption, higher brightness and faster response times than traditional LCDs, the new OLED screen is also interesting with a fully transparent display panel that can display content, but at the same time allows you to see through.

According to the description of the patent application, the new technology for the production of transparent screens can be used to produce both flat and flexible displays that can be folded, folded or rolled.

Despite the futuristic concept, the patent describes not the very idea of a transparent display, but a completely finished technology with the smallest technical details about each of the layers of the screen and the components needed to achieve the effect of transparency. In addition, a smartphone with such a display can also get the function of turning on and off the transparency mode.
Employees of the Dutch portal LetsGoDigital, in collaboration with designer Giuseppe Spinelli (or Snoreyn), used the schematic drawings in the patent description to create a series of realistic 3D renders of a prototype of such a smartphone with narrow edges and a large diagonal.
Numerous components of the smartphone itself - such as a battery, a printed circuit board, a camera and others, can hardly be made transparent as well, so the idea of releasing smartphones with a screen that is transparent throughout the entire plane hardly sounds practical.
However, in the description of the Samsung patent, it is noted that the technology allows only part of the screen to be transparent. In addition to the "wow effect", a transparent display could be useful, for example, for the introduction of two-way touch control of gadgets.

There are many contenders, no precedents yet
Previously, CNews repeatedly talked about various developments in the field of transparent displays, but until recently it was not about smartphones, but about screens aimed primarily at desktop displays, televisions or visual outdoor advertising (Digital Signale). For example, the same Samsung has been producing various models of transparent displays for the B2B sector for several years.

In mid-2017, CNews talked about a flexible, transparent, Ultra HD display with a diagonal of 77 inches, created by LG Electronics for the Korean government. The transparency of the display already at that time reached 40%, the screen could be bent 80 degrees - that is, it could be rolled into a roll with a diameter of 8 cm. The display was oriented for and use as signage, smart tables, displays for cars, supplemented applications. reality and other products. LG Transparent OLEDs were presented in Russia in early 2020
In mid-August 2020, CNews wrote that Xiaomi presented its own interior TV, Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition, with an almost completely transparent OLED 6 mm screen. Unlike many earlier announcements of similar transparent TVs from other companies, Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition was the first transparent TV to reach retail: from August 16, it can be purchased in China for about 50 thousand yuan (about $ 7,300).

In addition to the transparent TV, Xiaomi has also announced plans to release a transparent version of its flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Transparent Editions. However, unlike Samsung's patented technology, the Xiaomi smartphone will only be transparent on the back, allowing the user to see the components inside the device, but not letting them see through the phone.
