A guitar needs to be tuned frequently. While a piano gets tuned about once a year, you’ll sometimes need to tune your guitar within an hour of playing. There are plenty of different ways you can go about tuning your guitar, such as hearing a reference note on a piano and using your ears to match your strings to the note, or playing the 5th fret on each string and an open note on the next (with the exception of the 4th string, which will be the 4th fret!). But the most practical and efficient way to tune your guitar is by using … a mechanical guitar tuner! ABOUT KIM PERLAK
With performances that are deeply personal and express a breadth of tradition, guitarist Kim Perlak has been recognized as an inspired voice in American classical music. Her performances of new classical works and collaborations with jazz and traditional players have been featured on National Public Radio, at the Yale Guitar Extravaganza, and at Boston GuitarFest. Kim is the chair of the Guitar Department at Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, her artistic work to bridge styles includes collaborations with faculty composers, and in duo playing with master improviser and slide guitarist David Tronzo. Kim is the recipient of the 2016 Berklee Chair Recording Grant.
