When is the Best Time for Marriage Counseling? Most of the time couples seek out marriage counseling in a time of crisis, or out of pure desperation. They feel like they’ve tried everything they know how to do and they’re at the end of their rope. Honestly, the best time to work on your marriage is when you don't need to! What?
That seems counter intuitive.
Everyone has heard the saying, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” So why should marriage counseling be any different?
You’re the most open to tuning up your marriage when there’s no crisis or "fire" to put out.
Working with a counselor, coach, or mentor who encourages better communication skills, and how to resolve conflict is worth the investment of time and money. Spending time to refine skills that benefit marriage, improves your connection and satisfaction for the long haul. Plus what you learn and practice will get passed onto the next generation in your kids and grandkids.
The couples that succeed the most are those who keep learning about relationship skills and don't ignore the little stuff that can bump them off course. With the demands and expectations placed upon the family system in our culture every couple would benefit from a counselor or coach to keep them on track.
You hire a dentist, a doctor, a mechanic, and other professionals to sustain your life and belongings please consider the health of your relationship. Marriage is the foundation for the family and the family the foundation for the community. If you want strong relationships start with your marriage.
