Has there ever been a franchise that has played second fiddle as much as Digimon has played to pokemon. Throughout the years Pokemon has released essentially the same game over and over again and we the people have absolutely loved it even when we hated it. You have got to give Digimon credit, they have tried to do things differently over the years and sure they didn't always succeed, i'm looking at you, but hey some of the releases were good. Nevertheless Pokemon is a worldwide franchise that everyone expects to outlive the heat death of the universe while Digimon fans as rabid and dedicated as they are are always surprised and relieved any time a new show or game gets announced. A good way to put it i guess would be that for years Digimon fans have been watching Pokemon get the pizza while all they get is the crust.
Jumping into the modern era. Digimon Cyber Sleuth 1 &2 & that other one. I heard they were not bad but I wouldn't know because I played the first 10 or so hours of Cyber Sleuth, got bored and went back to emulating Sun & Moon on my DS.
Then bam Digimon Survive is announced and everyone loses their collective shit despite it getting no news for well; years. Bandai advertised it as a story driven experience with grid based tactics battles. Cool right? Further trailers came out and it looks like the story will be presented in a visual novel style format. Hey no problem, persona does basically the same thing just with 3D models in the background so it shouldn't be a problem.
Then bam September 29th, Digimon Survive and Xenoblade 3 hit shelves the same day. Everyone runs frothing at the mouth to their local game shop and buys a copy…. Of xenoblade 3 but those who could afford to buy two games in one day or those crust eating digimon fans I was talking about earlier actually buy digimon survive over Xenoblade 3.
Now let's review what we know about survive so far. Story driven game, check. Tactics based battles, check. Story presented through visual novel style senses with combat interspersed throughout, check. SO WHY ARE PEOPLE LOSING THEIR GODDAMN MINDS AND FREAKING THE SHIT OUT?I HAVE SO MANY CRUST EATERS AROUND ME SCREAMING THAT BANDAI LIED TO THEM.
Oh my gawd why can't I explore and find all the digimon I want and build up my scanner percentage.
BITCH THEY TOLD YOU WHAT THE GAME WASA BEFORE YOU BOUGHT IT! DON'T GET PISSY BECAUSE YOU EITHER DIDN'T BELIEVE THEM ARE YOU'RE A BAD LISTENER!.
Anyway I hear its a good game. Maybe ill get it.
